Ⅰ. Sealing theory of soft filling materials
When a centrifugal pump is working, the special synthetic fiber of soft filling materials will wrap the shaft or the shaft liner, and then rotate with the shaft. Thus a rotating seal ring of the rotating layer is come into being. The soft material adhere to the stuffing box forms a still ring. The soft material layer will be cut by the rotating shaft, and the cut special synthetic fiber will become a ring of synthetic materials and meanwhile many dens or grooves are created. Thus labyrinth type of gaps are made, which creates a throttling effect to the sealed medium and then creates an efficient sealing function.
Ⅱ. Characteristics of soft filling materials
1. It is unnecessary to make a special change of the equipment.
2. It is easy to fix, and does not need a professional engineer to maintain.
3. There is no limit of specifications and dimensions. The fixing to various shapes of stuffing boxes is also convenient, which helps to reduce a great deal of storage.
4. There is a very good lubrication, which will not wear and tear the shaft or the shaft liner and will effectively improve the working efficiency of the pump.
5. It can be on-line repaired, which will greatly reduce the loss that shut down maintenance brings, and will also reduce the intensity of labor.
6. It can also reach the sealing effect when been used at the worn- out shaft liner.
7. It does not need the cooling water to give a wash, which is to avoid the running off of the medium.
8. It will give little birth to a fiction heat and can almost guarantee a zero leaking.
Ⅲ. The installation way
1. Remove all the old packing and water separating loop.
2. Cut two end collars of the packing and then insert them into the stuffing box with a hold-down plate to assure the leveling off and the compaction of the end collar in the bottom of the stuffing box.
3. Fully fill the soft filling material in the stuffing box according to the way of installing the packing.
4. Install the outside end collar of the packing and let filling materials to be moderately tight.
5. start up the pump and make up the filling materials by using an injection gun to control the leaking.

It is widely used in industries of metallurgy, chemistry, electric power, paper making, manufacturing and so on.
